One client had excessive oil buildup to the point where raised sebum was visibly noticeable on the skin surface. When excess sebum accumulates inside the pores and mixes with old dead skin cells, it gradually disrupts the skin’s natural flow and texture. Over time, the skin can start to appear rough, uneven, and congested, while pores become more noticeable.
A common mistake many people make is aggressively squeezing visible sebum using cotton swabs or extraction tools. While it may feel satisfying temporarily, repeated extraction can create micro-damage and irritation, making the skin barrier increasingly sensitive over time.
Oily skin is not simply “skin with too much oil.” In many cases, oily skin is also dehydrated. When the skin lacks proper hydration, it may compensate by producing even more sebum, leading to recurring imbalance between oil and water levels. This cycle often results in excessive shine, dehydration, redness, sensitivity, and uneven skin texture occurring simultaneously.
At AURA, we focus not on forcefully removing sebum, but on refining pore condition and restoring smoother skin texture without compromising the skin’s overall condition.
This treatment was performed entirely without extraction.
First, raised sebum and impurities on the skin surface were gently softened to minimize irritation while creating a cleaner environment inside the pores. A low-irritation enzyme scrub was then used to softly cleanse accumulated dead skin cells and debris, while steam simultaneously provided hydration and helped stabilize the skin condition.
An ion scrubber was then used to refine the remaining impurities and smooth the skin texture. After all cleansing and refining steps, calming care is essential to soothe the skin and help the pores return to a more balanced condition.
Pore care is not simply about squeezing out sebum. A healthier approach focuses on minimizing irritation while improving skin texture and restoring proper oil-water balance.
